Nice shots! Not really sharp, as you already said... I think I know how to solve your AF-problem. Don't know how it's called, but I'll try to explain to you. Just send me a PM on Flickr and I'll try to explain it better if you don't understand ^^
If you make your shot, you're watching threw your camera. Just right above the glass you're watching threw at that moment, there's a little 'wheel.' Let your camera focus on something of wich you can see if it is sharp or not after your AF has done his job and try to turn that little wheel to the - or to the + . Have that sometimes as well and it always works.
Quite funny that RennieXXL, one of my best friends, spotted exactly the same car on the highway last saturday, isn't it. ^_^
